Wollaton Park and Martin’s Pond Walk

Our March walk took in Martin’s Pond and Wollaton Park. We stared off by walking round Martin’s Pond – a small wildlife reserve tucked away off Russell Drive and one of Nottingham’s hidden gems. From there, we moved on into Wollaton Park, where we walked round the lake and looked in on the Camellia House – just coming into bloom now. As usual we finished with lunch, this time in the Wheelhouse

Burns Celebrated in Style!

This year’s celebration of our national poet was a great occasion.  A full house of 100 members and friends were welcomed by President David Potter and  enjoyed an excellent meal.  The haggis was addressed with great relish by Bob Logan. We enjoyed a thoughtful and erudite speech on Burns by John Brebner from the Derby Scottish Association. This was followed by the customary verbal jousting and wit of the ‘Toast to the Lassies’ and the reply, given this year by Roger Neal and Doreen Johnson. To top it off, we finished with a set of enthusiastically performed ceilidh dances, led by Andrew Morrison.

Roll on our next big occasion – St Andrews Night in November!

A Great Night for St. Andrew’s!

Members and friends gathered at the Nottingham Masonic Lodge for their annual St. Andrews Night Dinner and Ceilidh. We had an excellent meal – served by the attentive staff of the lodge and a fine toast to Scotland by Rosie Allen. The rest of the evening was devoted to a ceilidh, led by Schuggie Macinnes which had us all on our feet. Roll on Burns Night so we can do it all again!
