A team from Nottingham Scottish Association helped residents at the Ruddington Manor Care Centre to celebrate Burns Night. The team demonstrated a number of dances and afterwards joined the residents for tea. We particularly admired the Jimmy Hat , Peter!

Party Night is always fun and Nottingham Lace is a great way to finish!

This year’s Christmas Walk took place at Colwick Park followed by lunch at the Toby Carvery. As so often this year, we avoided the showers and enjoyed a circular route in the Country Park. The walkers were then joined by a number of others for our substantial lunch complete with crackers, jokes and silly hats.

This year’s celebration of our patron saint was attended by 44 members and guests. They enjoyed good company and a wonderful meal. This was followed by Sylvia Hale proposing the toast to Scotland and was topped off by the ceilidh led by Schuggie MacInnes. Read all about it in the Chanter!

Our past presidents!

Our November walk from Strelley was blessed with a clear crisp autumn day. We started from the Mulberry Tree Café and crossed the M1 for a circular loop in the countryside between Cossall, Kimberley and Strelley.  This area is a tranquil oasis on the west of Nottingham with views across to Ilkeston and beyond – beautiful on a clear day. We then re-assembled for a convivial lunch in the Mulberry Tree. Thanks to Dave for organising and leading the walk.

Our October Walk, taking in the Straws Bridge Nature Reserve and part of the Nutbrook Trail, was blessed with glorious autumn weather! Seventeen members took part, enjoying the scenery and the sunshine. An excellent lunch, courtesy of the Newdigate Arms, topped off a lovely morning.

The Nottingham Scottish team displayed their skills on the Lakeside Golf Course. Surely selection for the Ryder Cup team is only a matter of time?

Saturday’s weather looked good for walking as 14 members converged on the lovely village of Parwich at the southern end of the Peak District. We were welcomed by the landlady of the Sycamore Inn who took our lunch time food orders before we set off on our morning walk.

This took us south on the Limestone Way to reach the Tissington trail where we were joined by many other walkers and cyclists all enjoying the sunshine. We returned to Parwich by way of a secluded, shady valley and a pleasant stroll through the fields. Lunch and a refreshing drink were very welcome!

A smaller number set off after lunch for a shorter but quite testing walk in the heat of the afternoon. This finished with a rather unexpected steep downhill scramble into Parwich – after which we felt we had earned some more refreshment before returning home.
